Excursion Into Puzzle Writing — By A New York Times Games Engineer
Ok so this isn’t a super long story, but I was happy to join the New York Times Games team earlier this year, where I’ve been contributing to the fun of millions of people by helping to build our games as an Engineer.
This year we released a new Game called Strands, which is a game where you try to find hidden words amongst a sea of letters by dragging your finger or cursor across certain letters, trying out different “Strands”. It’s actually quite a riveting game once you get into it. I was also lucky enough to be involved in the development of the game itself on our Android platform, amongst several other engineers.
For those who did not know: The challenge of the game is to try to find all the words without hints! The oppournity to obtain hints is obtained whenever you find non-theme words. It’s up to you on whether to use them! The puzzle developers and testers were gracious enough to allow me to submit my puzzle and voila!
Not going too deep into the theme to prevent spoilers, but I will say it might be more appropriately themed for October! I’m always excited to be apart of our Games team! It’s enjoyable to say the least with plenty of fantastic opportunities to display your creativity to all.
